 speaks against wasting national money ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) called the record of Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC) relating a contract of importing the LNG given to a French news agency, Geo News reported Wednesday.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammed Chaudhry said the national wealth would not be allowed to be squandered.

A three-member SC bench headed by the CJ Chaudhry heard the case regarding the import of Liquefied Natural Gas and called the original record of Economic Coordination Committee of the Cabinet (ECC) in connection with giving contract of LNG import to a French company.


The court directed the Cabinet Secretary to submit to the court the file of the contract and all related ECC record.

The Petroleum Ministry’s counsel SM Zafar told the court that LNG import contract award ceremony would remain pending until the SC’s verdict is declared.

The French company’s lawyer Abdul Hafeez Pirzadah said the Company extended the period of its offer on LNG contract till April 30.

Sui Southern Gas Company’s Project Director had his statement recorded during the hearing.

He said despite the reservations of the Gas Company, former Adviser Dr Asim Hussain started a short-term project of the LNG. However, the CJ said the unlawful order should not be complied with from anyone whosoever.

The court demanded the detailed viewpoint from chiefs of Fauji Foundation and Sui Southern and adjourned hearing till April 21.
